Today’s TJC Tidbit

The Joint Commission (TJC) will be visiting Sibley. To help everyone prepare, we will be featuring a daily tip here.

When speaking with a surveyor, ask questions if you don’t understand. Be professional and appropriate, but relax—surveyors are physicians, nurses, medical technologists and others who have worked in hospitals. They’ve ‘been there’!

Blood Drive

When: Thursday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Where: Building A, Conference Room 1

Why donate? You don’t need a special reason to give blood.

You just need your own reason.

  • Some of us give blood because we were asked by a friend.
  • Some know that a family member or a friend might need blood someday.
  • Some believe it is the right thing we do.

Whatever your reason, the need is constant and your contribution is important for a healthy and reliable blood supply. You’ll feel good knowing you’ve helped change a life.

Diversity and Inclusion Annual Report

Sibley’s LGBTQ community event was featured in the Diversity and Inclusion Annual Report. Read the article below (featured on page 32) as well as stories about our ongoing commitments to diversity and inclusion in five areas: employees, patients, research, community and economic opportunity.

Last June, Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., hosted an LGBTQ community event to gather ideas around the question: “How can Sibley better serve the LGBTQ community?”

Participants attended a world cafe-style event where there were discussion questions at five separate tables. Some questions included: “What does welcoming look like?” and “What change would make the most impact?” After people circulated to each table and wrote comments, a graphic facilitator captured the ideas generated at each table.

Sibley’s LGBT committee has started to work on several of the recommendations that grew out of the event, including education, inclusive forms, staff pins, community partnerships and welcoming signage. In November, the committee hosted a lunch-and-learn with a speaker on transgender 101.
