Today’s TJC Tidbit

The Joint Commission (TJC) will be visiting Sibley. To help everyone prepare, we will be featuring a daily tip here.

Take a look around the unit as if you were a surveyor. Are the hallways and fire exits clear of clutter or obstruction? Any equipment in the corridors must be actively in use, such as cleaning carts. The only exceptions are code carts and isolation carts.

Perianesthesia Nurse Awareness Week

Sibley celebrates Perianesthesia Nurse Awareness Week from Monday, Feb. 6, to Sunday, Feb. 12. Nurses working in preanesthesia and postanesthesia care, ambulatory surgery and pain management are dedicated to caring for patients and their families. They are passionate about what they do as nurses. This week is an opportunity to recognize the excellence and compassionate care they give—every person, every time. Thank you to Sibley’s perianesthesia nurses!

Annual Fire Alarm Testing

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, and Wednesday, Feb. 8, technicians from Baltimore Fire Protection will be performing the annual testing of the audio and visual devices to the fire alarm system in Building B starting at 7:30 a.m. each day.

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, the audio devices will be tested by broadcasting classical music over the speaker system. The speakers will be activated floor-by-floor for approximately 45-minutes on each floor, starting on the seventh floor and working down to the concourse level.

On Wednesday, Feb. 8, the visual devices (strobe lights) will be tested floor-by-floor, starting at the seventh floor and working down to the concourse level.

Please contact Bill Vroom at x4066 with any comments or concerns.

Safety Culture Assessment Survey

Thank you to those that have completed the Safety Culture Assessment Survey thus far! We are currently at a 53 percent response rate as an organization. Our Sibley goal for 2017 is to exceed our 2015 response rate of 78 percent. Let’s keep the momentum going. On Thursday, Feb. 2, Sibley’s 1000th person completed the survey! Remember that over 60 percent response rate for a unit/department and the organization is considered representative of the group, as well as for driving change and improvement. For the remainder of the survey period, the patient safety and quality department will continue to engage with units and departments to help increase response rates. Your voice is important to us!

We have had one winner collect their free fitness tracker from the patient safety and quality department, which means there are three people who have won, but haven’t retrieved their prize. Winners are randomly selected from Pascal Metrics, and will receive an email from them with further instructions. Please check your email to see if you have won.

IT Celebrates National Wear Red Day®

The IT department supported Go Red For Women by participating in National Wear Red Day® on Friday, Feb. 3, to bring awareness to cardiovascular disease.

Why Go Red? Cardiovascular disease in the U.S. kills approximately one woman every 80 seconds. The good news is that 80 percent of cardiac events may be prevented with education and lifestyle changes. Go Red For Women advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health.
